14-Day Great Migration and Zanzibar Mid-Range Safari
Three nights in the northern Serengeti for the migration, two in Central Serengeti, then five on the beach at Kendwa
Overview
This is the tour I would recommend for travellers who want the Great Migration and Zanzibar, but still want the budget to stay realistic. It gives you the big safari feeling without forcing every night into high-end luxury.
This 14-Day Great Migration and Zanzibar Mid-Range Safari pairs a strong Serengeti migration safari with a relaxed Zanzibar finish, while keeping the stays comfortable and the budget realistic.
You get real depth in the Serengeti: two nights in Central Serengeti for year-round big cats, and three in the north for the Mara River season, rather than a rushed pass.
Then the trip softens into Zanzibar: five nights at Kendwa, known for its beach, sunsets and ocean activities, with time to sleep in, swim and rest after the early safari mornings.
It is mid-range without feeling careless: the money goes where it matters most, on time in the Serengeti and a proper beach finish. The price starts at USD 5,141 per person, confirmed before we quote.

Day by day
Day 1
Arrival in Arusha
Your Warriors of Africa Safari team meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport and takes you to your lodge. The first day is deliberately relaxed after the long journey.
Depending on when you land, you may rest, enjoy the gardens, meet your guide for a short briefing or sort your bags for the road ahead.
Arusha Farm House, a country house in green gardens on the Kilimanjaro side of Arusha, gives the trip a calm, practical start.
Day 2
Arusha to Tarangire
After breakfast you leave Arusha with your private driver-guide for Tarangire National Park, your first full safari day.
Tarangire is elephant and baobab country, with river landscapes and seasonal concentrations of wildlife. You may see elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, antelope, warthogs, lions and many birds.
After the game drive you continue up to Marera Valley Lodge near Karatu for dinner and a quiet evening.
Day 3
The Ngorongoro highlands
Today you move up into the Ngorongoro highlands. Depending on timing, the day may include scenic highland driving, an optional cultural stop or simply a relaxed transfer to camp.
The highlands feel very different from Tarangire: cooler air, greener country and more dramatic views. This itinerary doesn't include a game drive on the crater floor; we can add one if you want it.
You spend the night at Ang’ata Ngorongoro Camp on the crater rim, a practical base between Tarangire and the Serengeti.
Day 4
Ngorongoro to Central Serengeti
After breakfast you drive down onto the Serengeti plains, one of the trip's most exciting route days as the landscape opens up.
Your guide game-views on the way in: plains animals, giraffes, elephants, hyenas and, depending on movement, predators.
You arrive at The African Kongoni Serengeti Safari Camp for your first night in Central Serengeti.
Day 5
A full day in Central Serengeti
Today belongs to Central Serengeti. An early start often pays off, with active predators, good light and cool air.
Lions on the kopjes and plains, leopards in riverine trees and cheetahs in open country are the classic searches, along with elephants, buffalo, hippos, hyenas, giraffes and the plains herds.
A full day lets your guide work the area properly: following tracks and waiting at sightings rather than passing through.
Day 6
Central to Northern Serengeti
After breakfast you head north. The drive is long but scenic, with wildlife along the way.
In the migration season the herds may gather around the Mara River. Crossings depend on the herds' own movement and are never guaranteed; several nights here give you a better chance.
You arrive at Safari Haven Migration Camp, your base for three nights.
Day 7
The Great Migration in the north
Your guide follows current reports, the tracks and the herds to choose the day's areas.
If the herds are near, you may watch them gather, graze, move and approach the river. If the river is quiet, the north still has lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles and the plains herds.
A packed lunch keeps you out longer, because wildlife doesn't keep to meal times.
Day 8
Another day in the northern Serengeti
A third day in the north means you don't depend on one short window. Your guide may revisit productive areas, explore other valleys or move away from busy spots.
The north is quieter and wilder than many guests expect, with fine landscapes and predators beyond the migration.
Back at camp for your last night in the Serengeti.
Day 9
Fly from the Serengeti to Zanzibar
After breakfast you transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar, subject to final routing and availability.
You are met in Zanzibar and driven to Kendwa on the north-west coast, known for its beach, its sunsets and easy relaxation.
You check in at Kendwa Rocks Beach Hotel and keep the first beach evening simple.
Day 10
Zanzibar beach day
A free day: no early start, no long drive. Sleep in and spend the day on the beach.
Swimming, snorkelling, beach walks, a sunset dhow cruise, a spice tour or Stone Town are all possible if you want them.
Kendwa is sociable but relaxed: lively enough for atmosphere, with space to slow down.
Day 11
A Zanzibar experience
Another full day on the island, at the hotel or with one optional experience.
Culture lovers can take a guided Stone Town tour of history, architecture, markets and food; ocean lovers can snorkel or join a marine trip when the sea allows.
Shape the day around your energy after the safari.
Day 12
Zanzibar at leisure
Five beach nights mean nothing needs to be rushed.
Enjoy the hotel, walk the beach, try local seafood, book a spa treatment nearby or take a gentle excursion.
After the intensity of the Serengeti, the trip settles into a softer rhythm.
Day 13
Last full day in Zanzibar
Your final full day: relax, take last photos, shop for souvenirs, swim, or add one last activity.
With a flight tomorrow, keep it easy unless your departure is late.
Enjoy your last evening at Kendwa.
Day 14
Departure from Zanzibar
After breakfast you check out and transfer to Zanzibar Airport, with a relaxed morning if your flight is later.
That is the end of your 14-Day Great Migration and Zanzibar Mid-Range Safari with Warriors of Africa Safari: Tarangire, the Ngorongoro highlands, Central and Northern Serengeti, and Zanzibar.

When to go
July to October is the northern Serengeti migration season, when the herds are often around the Mara River, depending on the rain.
Crossings can't be guaranteed, which is why the north gets three nights. Even without crossings, the area has excellent resident wildlife and landscapes.
If the migration is the main goal, book early: northern camps and Zanzibar hotels fill quickly in peak months.
Questions guests ask
Does this include Ngorongoro Crater?
Not as written: you sleep on the crater rim but don't descend. We can add a crater game drive; ask us for the price.
Why three nights in the north?
Crossings can't be scheduled. Three nights in the northern Serengeti give you time rather than one short window.
How is this different from the luxury version?
The route is similar. The 14-Day Great Migration and Zanzibar Luxury Safari uses Gran Meliá, Lion's Paw, Dove Serengeti, Mara Mara and Nungwi Dreams, and includes a crater day; this one uses comfortable mid-range stays from USD 5,141 per person.
Is Kendwa Rocks quiet?
It is one of Kendwa's livelier hotels, with a beach bar, live music and Full Moon Parties. If you want silence, we can suggest a quieter hotel.
How do I get from the Serengeti to Zanzibar?
By scheduled light aircraft, subject to final routing and availability. Soft bags within the allowance work best.
Is the price fixed?
USD 5,141 per person is a starting price, subject to season, availability, group size, rooming and final supplier confirmation.
